Essential Oils

I’m writing this the end of May, 2014. A friend of mine, Tonya Tanner, started using Young Living Essential oils in December of 2013 and began selling them the following January 2014. Intrigued, I started doing some research on the company but just couldn’t bring myself to put out almost $200 on a kit (the price at the time). So, I continued my research and then  started some serious budgetary plotting on how to get that kit. Then I see where there is a kit being offered as a prize drawing off by Southbark. (Local dog rescue society). I bought two tickets and promptly decided to wait and see if I won before buying out of my pocket!  Long story short?  In March of this year, I won that raffle, thereby changing our lives forever. Literally.

Now, I’ve been an R.N. for over 20 years guys. I’ll be the first one to admit that I did my fair share of eye rolling when someone rolled in with aroma therapy and oils and ‘stuff’. Especially when they started brewing ginger tea’s and putting peri pads in the freezer?  Seriously?  Ugh! ….Always my reaction. And now…. in less than 4 months my entire attitude has changed. Completely changed. Reversed directions. Un-freakin-believable!

Had you told me even a year ago I would be an oil loving/natural healing convert I would have scoffed. Laughed out loud. At you. In your face even.  (How rude!) And yet. Here we are. I am all about some all natural oils. Using them, learning about them, talking about them. I think everyone should use them as a first line of defense!!!

Now, that said, OF COURSE, I still believe in modern medicine. Yes, there is a place for antibiotics and for all the other treatments that ‘we’ deem necessary daily. There is ‘A PLACE’…..I just no longer believe it’s the first place. I no longer believe that the best way to treat my migraines or simple tension headaches are to reach for Tylenol or my prescription medications. That insomnia or restless sleeping calls for a prescription or Tylenol PM. That heartburn requires Tums. That bug bites requires Stop Itch. That I have to use that awful, smelly, greasy and generally gross ‘Off’ product to keep from being eaten alive by mosquitos. I’ve used these things and a hundred other things large and small for myself, my husband and our dogs!  No side effects, no problems!  I might have to play around with the oils a bit to see what works best for us, but it’s better to work with oils, than with chemicals.

Now, keep in mind that I only speak to YOUNG LIVING ESSENTIAL OILS. There are lots of brands out there and I’m not going to debate anyone over which essential oils are better for them. All I’m going to say is that I did the research and concluded that for ME AND MINE Young Living was the way to go. I will be doing a full post on why I chose them later, so I’m not going into that here. I just want to make sure that everyone understands that not all brands of EO’s (essential oils) are ingestible. Some cannot be applied anywhere other than on your feet (not your face, wrists, neck, chest or ears or anywhere else) and some can’t be diffused or inhaled.

I can do all of those things with Young Living oils. Not every oil  that Young Living makes can be ingested but most are and every single oil they make can be applied topically and diffused. Just follow the label directions.

Alrighty then!  I think that dips our toes into the tides of EO’s…. Now we shall move along and start learning more about them and what they can do for us!!  Join me as we do some Essential Learning!

This information is not meant to diagnose or prescribe anything for any medical issue whether acute or chronic.  You should always discuss treatment of medical conditions with your medical practitioner before using any alternative therapies, natural supplements, or vitamins. You should consult with any aromatherapist about essential oil usage and always tell your primary care physician what you are using as the oils might not be conducive with his/her prescribed therapy and medications. I am going to speak to what has worked for me and my family and friends only.

This is it! Tell me what's on your mind! Lord knows I told you what's on mine! Can't wait to read it....
